Key National Dates & Events
Independence Day
Ghana's most important national holiday, commemorating independence from British colonial rule on 6 March 1957. Marked by military parades, durbar of chiefs, and national ceremonies.
Republic Day
Commemorates Ghana's transition to a republic on 1 July 1960. The day marks Ghana's complete constitutional independence from the Commonwealth monarchy.
Citizenship Week
An annual NCCE-led initiative targeting school pupils. Features eminent role models who share virtues of good citizenship with young Ghanaians across the country.
Constitution Week
A week-long civic education campaign to create national awareness and appreciation of Ghana's 1992 Constitution and its role in protecting citizens' rights.
Farmers' Day
A public holiday honouring the contributions of Ghana's farmers and fishermen to the national economy. Outstanding farmers receive national awards from the government.
General Elections
Presidential and parliamentary elections are held every four years. Ghana's Electoral Commission ensures free, fair, and transparent elections. Every vote matters.
